Would appreciate any input to the following research thesis:

Hypothesis: "Reed selection, preparation and maintenance is not a science,
but a matter of individual choice and experience."

Subsidiary questions:
* Can you fix an unsatisfactory reed?
* What differenece is there between:
manufacturers;
grades;
lengths?
* What makes one reed perform better than another?
* Can we manufacture reeds in the home workshop? What is involved?

Comments on any aspect of the above are requested please! :)
