I used ENCORE 3.0 (WIN) for 8 months and have recently upgraded to ENCORE
4.0,
a vast improvement. Unless you arrange or compose a great deal, then
Encore should be great. It is relatively straight forward to learn and
use. I have done two band arrangements and a number of chamber music
arrangements/transcriptions. FINALE does everything possible but is
demanding of the user. Music Printer Plus I used for two months then
switched to Encore.

For Macintosh, MOSAIC is fairly easy to use and does most everything.
