I have also become a fan of Passport's Encore. Its not cheap, but so
easy to use, especially the 4.0 version. Will do up to 8 separate
voices, input from either keyboard or midi device, or an onscreen
piano keyboard, various customizable tool bars, can control the font
and note and symbol characteristics, will do cross-staff beaming, etc.

I used some of the Dr. T products originally cause they were cheap and
seemed full featured, but ultimately too many problems, limitations, bugs,
etc.

I also use Midiscan which allows you to scan music, then use your
computer to convert the scanned image to midi files. Works well on some
music, terrible on others. But, if you have a lot of music that you want
to copy to midi, music notation software, it can save a lot of bother. But,
warning that it still requires a lot of work to clean up and correct.

I find that music notation software is very good for using the midi sound
card for playing "music minus one" for practicing, transposing, extracting
parts, etc. But, there is a learning curve, a lot of bother and expense
getting started with it, yet many benefits as well...
