Jim,

The probable "problem" is that your college's mailer is not set up to
handle BITNET addresses directly. In that case, you have to use a gateway
to BITNET. Notice that the "reply" address on (most recent) messages from
the Klarinet list is
KLARINET%VCCSCENT.BITNET@-----.edu

(In past months at least two other gateway addresses have appeared.) Tell
your students to send their subscribe commands to

listserv%vccscent.bitnet@-----.edu

That ought to get through successfully.
