Imagine this: The musical is Cabaret. The band, on risers, is
on the stage in the background of the set. During a scene when the
audience was so quiet one could hear a pen drop, I reached to turn
the page in my music. As I pulled back, the screw on the stand pole
gave way and sent my music holder crashing down. It was the loudest
noise I had heard. The funny part was seeing the musician below me
scramble to protect his instruments. Since then Rich (the musician)
and I joke about that incident every time I come around his
instruments in the orchestra. Did I mention the bari sax player who
had a sax stand that squeaked and creaked every time he moved it? Or
what about the music director in drag? Now THAT was interesting!!
(You know who I'm talking about Eileen!!)
