Subj: Rubber (?) Barrels

I'm just wondering if anyone else out there has knowledge about
a barrel made out of some kind of rubber or plastic. Anyhow it's not
made out of wood and has no metal rings, but is actually dull in color
(gray.) My teacher has one, and many of his college students use them as well
So, I just want to know if anyone has any information on these barrels at
all. Whether they create better tone, intonation, etc. Thanks
