Well, I may not have the big orchestra jobs, but even school concerts can
go badly.
Last year, our college Wind Ensemble did a concert of Haloween music,
including an excellent (read, difficult) adaption of "Night on Bald Mountain"
for W.E. Being the (only) clarinet major in the school, I had the honor (?) of
playing the entire piece, including solos. I'm not sure how many of you have
the experience of playing both violin and clarinet parts on the same piece-
six pages of music with a total of about 16-20 measures rest.
Having practiced diligently, I was ready to actually get through the
piece until about halfway through the second page. I took a breath, and when I
went to play again, my reed was gone! It seems that during the first page, my
ligature loosened enough to ride up on the mpc and let the reed drop halfway
down. I fixed it, but after about three more breaths/reed drops, I became
a little frustrated. Fortunately, I have the habit of sticking my case/bag
next to me on stage. I grabbed my other ligature, fixed the reed, and
finished the piece. Thank goodness for section players! :)

(Oops, spelled 'Halloween' wrong, sorry)

Hope you got a kick outta my story,
