I seem to remember reading, once upon a time, an article by a
musicologist which stated that the Kegelstadt got its nickname by mistake
and that the actual piece which should have been called Kegelstadt was a
divertimento for two or three strings which had a similar catalogue
number. The two pieces' numbers were supposedly mixed up and the
appelation given by mistake to K 498 instead of, e.g. K 489. Is anyone on
the list in a position to confirm or refute this story? If it was in fact
written and published somewhere, can anyone tell me where and by whom?
Thanks in advance to all who try to help.
