Subj: "Unfinished" Buffets

It's sure news to me that Buffet leaves them unfinished. I have had
similar experiences to Mitch Bassman -- paper wrappers from the factory,
play them, choose a good instrument, use it professionally unless/until it
needs further adjustment.

Clearly, it is difficult to assess the quality of a new factory instrument
if it leaks badly, keys are binding etc. On the other hand, I've played
instruments from the factory that felt great, took them to a quality
repairman to tighten it up, and the instrument does not play as well as it
did when it leaked. Neat, eh?

I suspect that the ill-fitting tenons etc are quality control,
weather-related or shipping problems rather than a Buffet "policy".
Anybody from Boosey on this forum to discuss this?
