Long tones are important for intonation. They firm up the lip for even
response and the pitch can be improved......not perfect. I play a Buffet, so
I can't help with the alternate fingerings. You seem to have a handle on
them anyway.
Undercutting is very risky. Not recommended by many players.
But the long tones and slow playing for practice helps me with tone and pitch
quality.
