Neil,
>From what I've heard, the Festival and the R-13 Prestige are vastly
different designs. The R-13 Prestige has been described as a "darker"
sounding clarinet with a thicker wall, I believe. The Festival has been
described a more of a jazz instrument with a brighter overall tone concept.
I have a friend who owned a Prestige some years ago, and he switched to a
standard R-13 because he found the Prestige too "dark." Someone I met at
ClarinetFest tried a Festival (or was it an Elite?) and didn't like the
tone, but loved the response. Depending on your personal taste and style(s)
of music you play, they could both be worth a try. Let me know what you find.
