Even though I'm no longer on this list, I thought the following might be of
interest to many of you.

Clarinetist/saxophonist Eddie Daniels is in L.A. right now recording a new
album. The material is the Vivaldi Four Seasons, rescored in many places by
Jorge Calendrelli (who wrote the arrangements and compositions for Eddie's
GRP CD ten years back "Breakthrough," which featured Calendrelli's Clarinet
Concerto). This album is mostly on clarinet, keeping faithful to the original
Vivaldi material for much of it, but inserting parts played with added rhythm
section and of course jazz improvising. The rhythm section is Alan Broadbent
(piano), Dave Carpenter (bass) and Peter Erskine (drums), who recorded
yesterday (with Eddie live, of course). Tomorrow he records the other
sections with the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, some of it overdubbed on top
of the rhythm. Again, Eddie will record live with the orchestra (full strings
and harpsichord). Eddie's using tenor saxophone on 3 of the sections.
Calendrelli has composed an additional movement which is called the "Fifth
Season."
I went to the rhythm section/Eddie recording date yesterday and it sounded
great. What a phenomenal player this guy is! As everyone got more tired on
the date, he seemed to get looser and more inspired. If any of you have not
seen my article on Eddie in the May/June issue of Saxophone Journal, you
might like to.
I thought some of you might be interested in this.
