just thought i'd mention that i'm playing a concert soon with some very
cool new pieces for wind quintet and a clarinet solo piece. the show is
on august 23 8:00pm at the cowell theater, fort mason, sf (for info 415
441 3400). our quintet is called " city winds." the pieces are: "under
desert skies" by manly romero, an absolutely beautiful BIG (35 minutes)
piece for wind quintet that i'm convinced will become the summer music of
the late 90s; "6'30"" by william sussman, a very catchy piece of
minimalism; "quintet" by chen yi, and "autumn ayre" by phil collins (not
the rock star) which is a very effective and (in my opinion) important new
addition to the clarinet solo rep. it's hard, but not nutty, & has a lot
of comtemporary techniques without sounding like a gimmick piece.
it would be great to finally be able to put faces to some
klarineters whose names are (by this time), very familiar. also, we
will be taking some of these pieces on the road: boston college 8:00
sept.21, and other dates in maine and rhode island around that time. e
mail me privately for more info.
