I totaly understand your statement of either being blessed or cursed by
a good ear. I have played "by ear" most of my life. simply by playing
what i hear or want to hear. I also read music, but until recently was
rather ashambed to let anyone know how much i relyed upon my ear. It
has taken me quite a while to learn to seperate what i see written on
the music, and what i hear in my head and want to play. I am curious,
if anyone els has this experience. Currently I am a music student at a
local community college working on an associate in music degree. I
have been playing clairnet for about 30 years.(gee, has it really been
that long) I played bass and contrabass in high school and contra bass
still has my heart, now i play b flat clairnet in our church orchesra.
A group of approximately 30 players. We have three clairnets and a
supprano sax in our clairnet section. I never concidered my self to be
a really good player but i enjoy it very much and am trying to improve.
I have benefited much from reading postings in this group.
