I would like to hear the considered opinions of list members regarding
choice of reed strength for junior high school clarinet players. I was
recently in a discussion with a band director who was lementing the fact
that her grade nine clarinet players insisted upon playing on #4 reeds.
This struck me as a bit much for young players. What would your
recommendation be regarding reed strength for beginners through the
first three years of study in a band program?
