I know I brought this up in the spring, but I'm once again working on my
Jr. Year Comprehensive. I'm still working on getting a fine tuned topic
for my paper, in which I would like to get into such questions as "Why
involve the hearing impaired in music?" "What does music contribute to
them?" "Do 'signed' songs bear significance?" "What can musicians learn
from this?"

I'm interested in both possible references and personal experiences.

Another part of this comprehensive is an open category where I plan on
doing some sort of presentation. (This will all probably take place
sometime this winter.) Just for preliminary planning, I've thought of
discussing the company "Music for all to hear," having a small group
perform a piece or two with the best possible instrumentation for the
hard of hearing/hearing impaired, along with playing a selection from one
of "Music for all to Hear"'s albums. I'd also like to incorporate an
idea I got from Jeff Bowles to hand out balloons so that the audience
might "feel" the music through vibrations as well as listen to it.

If I don't sound very knowledgeable about this whole Jr. Year Comp.
thing, it's because this is the first time Augustana College (Rock
Island, IL) is requiring it, so I don't have any previous examples to go
from, and I'd be grateful for any ideas.

A million thanks in advance!

Anne
