Regarding all the recent discussion of doublers specializing on each
instrument. A great example of one is Eddie Daniels, for many years he was a
top sideman in New York, known to be excellent on clarinet, flute, and the
saxes. In fact he even once recorded on trombone with the La Playa Sextet.
The point is that Eddie studied each instrument individually. He
studied flute with Julius Baker, clarinet with Bonade, and clarinet and sax
with Joe Allard. I don't know who he studied trombone with...
