In my search for a decent way to store reeds without warpage or mold
(those plastic reeds look better every time I throw out another
chipped or bad reed), I' been trying "The Reed Pro." I like the way it
allows the reeds to dry slowly while maintaing their shape, but I've
also noticed that several of my reeds are beginning to get tiny chips
at the tip. Did I just buy a bad batch of reeds? Am I using the thing
wrong? Or could it be that I'm discovering the reason EVERYBODY
doesn't use one of these things?

On an unrelated note, I've got a 50s Conn clarinet (attic special).
It looks to be in fairly good shape and should be playable if I have
it repadded and recorked. Here's the question: Is it worth spending a
c note or two to have this thing overhauled, or would I be better off
getting a new clarinet? I'm a rank beginner on clarinet, so I'm wide
open for suggestions.
