I agree! I haven't seen Snorkel but I've seen Ben in some other contexts.
Ben has also performed with the Club Foot Orchestra on
occasion, and appears on a couple tracks on the latest CD from the
Charlie Hunter Trio ("Bing, Bing, Bing," Blue Note).

Another SF bay area clarinettist to check out is Beth Custer. She's
the long-time clarinettist and co-composer with the Club Foot Orchestra,
and has a few other projects going (e.g. the Beth Custer/Will Bernard
ensemble).

BTW, the Club Foot Orchestra is something really special to see; they
perform their own scores live with old silent films (Fritz Lang: Metropolis,
Robert Wiene: The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari, F.W. Murnau: Nosferatu,
Buster Keaton: Sherlock Jr., G.W. Pabst: Pandora's Box, and some cartoon
shorts). They recently performed their latest score, Pandora's Box,
at Lincoln Center (darn, should have posted here so you NY types could
check it out). The scores are excellent, particularly Metropolis and
Pandora's Box, and the musicians, most of whom are sickeningly multi-
instrumental, are phenomenal.
