Subj: Low D on a B-flat and A clarinet

Somehow showing up with a toilet paper roll as part of my playing equipment
seems undignified. But I do want to mention that I can get low D on both
of my Selmer full Boehm clarinets. I had a wooden extension made that
fits between the lower joint and the bell. Now both instruments have a low
E-flat on them as part of the regular keywork. With the extension in place,
the depression of low E-flat key gives a low D. Of course one loses the low
E-flat note.

I had the extension made solely for the fragmentary Mozart clarinet quintet.
It requires a low D but not a low E-flat. Then, after it was made, I tried
it on my A and it worked there too. I used it once for K. 581, but the fact
that I don't have a low C made the situation more problematical.
