This is an intriguing subject. If not done already, it's an
excellent opportunity for some good intellectual history. I'd
really enjoy a book which examined the history of sexual
roles of different instruments. Seems like there's a lot to
dig into: the gender balance of players, the perception of
the instruments (physically and timbrally), the manner in
which the instruments are played, the roles of the
instruments in compositions of different types, and the
evolution of these elements over time and across different
musical styles.

If anyone's aware of such a book, please post a reference!
