I live in Australia and am also interested in English music and there
is some great stuff. The Stanford sonata is very beautiful with a very
passionate second movement. One of the best would have to be the Arnold
Bax sonata, it was written after he heard the Brahms sonata and the first
theme is the inverted first theme of the Brahms e flat. There is also a
great work by Dunhill, in five short movements, which is fantastic.
John Denman, an English clarinettist has released two CD's on just
English works and I could not begin to tell you how good it is. I don't
have the details in front of me, but I shall remember tomorrow. Or if you
want a bit more detail just E-Mail me.
