Whereas the proposed French nuclear tests and the war in Bosnia may be
keeping many of us awake at nights, and whereas most clarinetists have more
pressing problems than buying cork grease in quantity, the following
information may save students enough to pay off loans early and let some of
us with "day jobs" to retire early and devote our lives to clarinet playing.

Last winter while waterproofing a pair of shoes, I dug out a 3 oz. plastic
container of "Smiling Mink" leather waterproofer that my son had bought 15
years ago to waterproof some hiking boots which is made by "Original Mink Oil
Waterproofing, Inc." in Portland, Oregon. The ingredients are pure mink oil,
extra fancy beef tallow, zinc stearate, and stabilizers. But, cork grease by
any other name is still cork grease and it is identical to that stuff I've
been buying for years in those tiny tubes and little containers. It's still
available from outdoor equipment and most shoe repair stores. Hope that
helps.

Don Gross - Just greasing corks and going down the ISH with my turn signals
on!
