As a newer member of this list, I have enjoyed the lively exchanges -
finally, now, I have the time (and courage!) to end "lurking" and to
properly introduce myself to list members.

In addition to conducting the Hamilton College Orchestra (Upstate NY),
I am a fairly active clarinet soloist/recitalist - recent performances have
included the Corigliano Concerto with the Syracuse Symphony, and a
new double concerto (clar.-piano) by Masataka Matsuo with the
Shinsei Japan Philharmonic (Tokyo), as well as recitals of clarinet (with
or without pianist Kazuko Tanosaki) with interactive computer or
computer tape in Hartford, Buffalo, San Jose, and Berkeley Cal.

I've also written a couple of books ("The Clarinet of the Twenty-First
Century" and "The Bass-Clarinet of the Twenty-First Century") that
describe hundreds of alternate fingerings, multiphonics, and
microtones. (if anyone would like further information about these
books, please send me a private email at:

Yours sincerely,

E. MIchael Richards
