Adam,
On July 14th, while attending the Ashland Chamber-Music Workshop
in Ashland , Oregon, I received a performance assignment involving
clarinet, horn, and piano, the combination about which you inquired.
Ashland CMW's library listing for this group is included as a supplement
to this message.
Of the nine compositions listed, I have had first-hand experience
with five. As you know from other messages on this subject, the Reinecke
Trio is excellent and is considered a standard for the combination. Our
assignment for last Friday (the 14th) was the John Cowell Trio, from which
we played a movement. This composition is very popular among
wind players and deservedly so. The Hessen Trio is also highly regarded,
especially by horn players, although, of the two, I preferred the
Cowell.
My favorite of the music we read through was the Alec Wilder
Suite. However, the piece seemed to intimidate the pianist, who was a
newcomer to the Workshop, and that was the only reason we didn't select
that one for performance.
A few years ago, I played a movement of the Rochberg Trio at the
Humboldt Workshop. That piece was very rewarding, and was well received
by the audience.
I hope this information plus the following listings will be of
help in your search.
