Tom Ascher enquired today about ear protectors:

I use the Sonic Sound Filters, made by North Specialty Products, 2663-B
Saturn Street, Brea, CA 92621. These are molded, confortable for extended
wear, and have a silicon-metal diaphram that attenuates loud transients, but
does not interfere with conversation, or hearing your instrument. A real
God-send, if you must deal with deaf percussionists, or over-zealous piccolo
players, not to mention Laser-tone trumpeters.
Thes are available at most "Rock" music stores, or at your local private
pilot shop (I use them in the Cessna 182 when flying).
