Subj: Francaix trio "accessible" says audience
Date: Mon, 17 Jul 1995 02:39:55 -0400

Last year there was some discussion on this list about the Francaix
trio for clarinet, viola and piano. Several people said they had it
on their "must perform it next time I get a chance" list, but no one
came forward to say they had played it. Well, I performed it on
Sunday and I'm pleased to say that all of the audience members I
talked to afterwards said they enjoyed it (the adjectives they used to
describe it included "fun", "accessible" and "humorous"). This was a
great relief because when we first started rehearsing it we had our
doubts about its audience appeal due to its length (5 movements) and
seemingly complex nature. However, persistence paid off -- after a
few rehearsals it no longer seemed so complex and even became fun to
play, a feeling that obviously rubbed off on the audience (not to
mention the occasional adrenalin rush caused by sheer panic at times!)
I highly recommend this work which I would never had heard about if it
wasn't for this list.
