I am not satisfied with the tone quality that I can achieve from the
throat tones on my clarinets, particularly my A ( Buffet) and was
told
at one time that a different register tube would help. Are these the
register tubes that _they_ were talking about?
In general, has anyone out there dealt with Alvin Swiney and
Affordable Music? Do these products help?

I believe that a new register tube can improve the Buffet A clarinet. My
current instrument has merely had the existing tube shortened but I intend
to eventually have it replaced, perhaps by Guy Chadash in NYC. A different
A clarinet tube can definately reduce the undertones in the upper register
of the Buffet A clarinet and also reduce the stuffiness sometimes present
around middle b. It may help the throat B-flat, but I doubt it could help
the other throat tones. In any case, the old tube can be put back if you
aren't happy.
Swiney sent me some barrels once that I didn't keep, but I have tried some
good ones that other people owned. A good barrel may be the answer to your
throat tone dilemma.
