Subj: Loudness of bass clarinets

Several contributions to this list mentioned having trouble with
the bass clarinet not being loud enough. Although I don't myself have such
a problem, I do have an observation:
I have known two b.c. players who didn't play loud enough, even though
their directors complained. Both of them had Buffet instruments. Is this
a coincidence, or do Buffet b.c.'s have a reputation for insufficient
loudness?
