Friends,

I've rejoined our discussion group in the midst of a discussion about Leon
Russianoff, my former teacher, and have been enjoying all the commentary about
Leon. A few tidbits to add...

Leon was among the most generous individuals and teachers I've ever met. My
lessons would go on well past the appointed ending time...sometimes for an extra
hour or so! If he had the time, he was always willing to share it. And, not
only was he generous with his time, but his generosity was extended in other
days as well. I remember coming to a lesson and the previous student was
lamenting the fact that it was raining, and that he had to walk thirty blocks
back to his apartment. Leon said, "What's the matter--just take the subway!"
The student was embarrassed to admit he could not really afford to routinely
take it. Leon responded by reaching into his wallet--he pulled out a $100 bill
and gave it to the student, and insisted he accept it.

(Unexpectedly have to run...more later!)
S Geidel
