Subj: Saxophonists whostarted on clarinet

Hello everyone! This is the first message that I have posted since joining
the list. As a saxophonist who also plays clarinet, I found the statement
"all of the best saxophonists started on clarinet" to be patently untrue.
Also, all of the saxophonists names that I have seen mentioned in relation
to this comment have been jazz or big band artists. There are quite a few
"legit" saxophonists who would certainly be considered among the best in their
field, who did not start on clarinet and do not play clarinet at all. While be
being able to play clarinet is definitely NOT a detriment to being an excellent
saxophonist, neither is it a prerequisite.

I just couldn't resist adding my two-cents worth on this one.
