I never had pad worms in any of my clarinets, but have seen the damage
that they create. I was eighteen the first time I observed this and
began having my clarinets padded in cork with the exception of the four
lowest pads. These are still done in bladder skin as cork is too noisy.
Cork is expensive, but it lasts a long time. (My Eb sop. was padded in
cork the day after I got it (1978) and still has those same cork pads.)
Another good thing about cork is that when the pads get sticky or dirty,
the keys can be removed, washed in warm, soapy water and reattached.
Incidentally, I live in the Baltimore, MD area.
