Forgive me for going on about mouthpieces, but all this discussion around
jazz sax mpcs made me wonder about clarinet jazz mpcs, especially since
I'm currently evaluating three and found very little in the Klarinet
archives. Currently I'm evaluating:

Vandoren 5JB Jazz
John Pierce Jazz
Bari Buddy DeFranco #2....."

My opinion is that there is no such thing as a "jazz" clarinet mouthpiece. I
thought we had been over all this a few months ago. Eddie Daniels, arguably
the premiere jazz clarinettist around, plays mouthpieces which cannot be
described any way except very "legitimate", which, while not a precise
definition, means, at least in Eddie's case, a mouthpiece which has a close
lay, and on which he plays a hard reed.
I suppose the writer may be looking for a mouthpiece with a bigger tip
opening, in order to bend notes more easily, or something which plays loud,
but I don't know what "jazz" mouthpiece means. Maybe you add air and it
automatically produces pentatonic scales. Lee Callet
