I'm sure Donald Y. is right in general. Some reeds seem to have alarming
variations in fibre density which *may* be related to squeaking - if they DO
squeak. Possibly these should have been finished slightly assymetrically, but
weren't. Non-reed causes (or reed-assisted causes, maybe) include: (1)
imperfect attachment of the reed to the mouthpiece; (2) a loose mouthpiece; (3)
sticky or sweaty fingers; (4) if you have an instrument like my B flat which
grows sticky tape, sticky keywork; (5) a pad which is on the way out; (6) a
loose middle joint or barrel which doesn't stay in line.
