One would describe a room like that as "live". That is, there is a lot
of reverberation of the sound. Adding any kind of soft material - thick
carpet, upholstered furniture, acoustic ceiling tiles, would clear it up.
A few square feet is not enough; you must have an area of soft material
equal to a good fraction of the area of the floor.
