Judith, with such a strong and delightful response to the absurd
statement that Dutch is a dialect of German, I hope that you will
continue to come on the board and given us more information. It
is not that we Americans want to monopolize the boards, it is
rather that few Europeans (and in fact, few non Americans) jump
in with us, that is besides a few good friends in the UK.

You will find no discrimination on this board. We disagree with everyone
independent of whether they are man or woman, aged or young, right or
wrong. We are, to no small degree, like Sophists who, when the
day got boring, would stand up and say, "The earth is flat" and then
proceed to give 40 good reasons for this observation. However, if
too many people agreed with this view, the same Sophist would then
stand up and say, "No!! The earth is round!" (or triangular, or
oxyhedronical or shaped like a banana), and then give 40 more reasons
to agree with the new position.

So please, it should not take a critical and absurd slight on the
Dutch langauge to bring you out of hiding. Tell you what!!! I'll
make an invitation (depending on where in the Netherlands you are).
I'll be staying at the Sheraton Frankfort hotel on Saturday night,
July 22. Give me a call, and we shall chat about how to get more
Dutchmen and Dutchwomen (and others) as more active members on this
list. And I promise, whatever they say, we in America will disagree!

I have been an admirer of your teacher for many years!!!
