Klarinet Archive - Posting 000334.txt from 1995/06
From: Alan <347L6HL@-----.EDU> Subj: Beware the "too" syllable Date: Fri, 16 Jun 1995 02:42:48 -0400
When I was first learning, I was told to tongue with the "too".
When I say the word "too", I touch the roof of my mouth with my tongue, and
this is how I tongued on the clarinet for years. I never touched the reed
with my tongue.
I changed when i got to college, for I didn't want to change anything before
I got accepted somewhere. (I was so good at this roof tongueing, none of my
instructors or profs knew until I told them.)
I support the "doo". It may not sound as crisp when you say it, but it
gives the right tongue position, and when playing, is still crisp.
