Some time ago Michael Cassara asked about Alphonse Picou, the New Orleans
Creole clarintetist and if there were any CD's of his playing. I was recently
in New Orleans and ran across a CD that featured Picou. It is a GHB CD
number BCD-106 entitled "Marie LaVeau" by Papa Celestin's New Orleans Band
and appears to be from the late 1940's, although this is not specifically
stated in the liner notes. I take my source as Samuel Charters book
Jazz New Orleans 1885-1963, An Index to the Negro Musicians of New Orleans,
Oak Publications CT 2016, 1963. Charters cites Picou as playing with Celestin
during this period.
Picou appears on tracks 6 through 15. Track 6 is High Society.
GHB Records' address is 1206 Decatur Street, New Orleans, LA 70116.
