Another example is Mark Helmsley's (I do a poor job of remembering his
name, but I love his transcriptions immensely -- if I'm way off base, I
hope some of you can guess who I mean) transcription for wind band of "The
Pines of Rome", which calls for two solo A clarinets in the slow
movement. No doubt he did it to avoid compromising on those low E's.
