Amanda,
First things first, Hi. How does a person name Sharron B. Owens
get to be called Amanda? OK, now I will try to help you with what limited
knowledge I have. About the dissertation, why not contact the
University of Iowa? They should be able to make you a copy. If not, there
are, I think I remember
learning, two services which catalogue dissertations. The one I remember
is called Dissertations and Abstracts International, or DAI. Any
university library will know their number/address. There is also a DC ROM
which you can search but I forget the name. Again, check with any
university library. As for procuring a chalumeau, I know they are being
made but not where. However, if you get in touch with Larry MacDonald at
Oberlin (or throught the Smithsonian in Washington, DC, for that matter),
I'm sure he'll know. He is an early clarinet specialist. Have fun...
