Does it have to be farther East than South Bend, or anywhere in the
Eastern half of the US?

There's the Saxophone Shop/Evanston Band Instrument Co. in Evanston, IL
(but that's 75 miles SW of South Bend, IN. But they have excellent
service & very reasonable prices.
