All the comments about clarinets in various keys is interesting.
I always suspected that the C came firrst. I am glad to hear from
people who know the history.
The origins of the Eb (derived from D) was especially interesting.
Does anyone know where the Ab came from? And the G? Was the basset
(in F) a totally different instrument?
