Actually, I highly doubt that. I can't imagine any composer worth his
salt letting the orchestrator choose between the two tone colors for him. Bb
and A Clarinets are different enough that I would suspect that all composers
make the choice themselves. Would you let an orchestrator choose
instrumentation for you? I don't - of course, I'm not a professional composer,
and more importantly I have no orchestrator. I do it all myself - composition,
orchestration, part copying, and grovelling for readings.
