I belong to several community choruses, orchestras and theatrical
groups and fund raising is a constant effort. Three of the groups that
I belong to rehearse in churches at no cost, which saves a bundle. the
obligation is that we mention the church in our programs with just a
simple declarative statement: "We'd like to thank Christ Lutheran
Church for use of their facility for rehearsals". The church, if at all
possible, is used as one (but not the only one) of our performance
venues.

Second, many local companies also give grants of a small, but decent
amount, to local performing arts groups. Many more companies will give
matching funds that their employees may give to the group; if Joe Blow
gives $50 to a theater group, the company he works for will match that
amount. In one case the Northwest Community Chorale (one of my groups)
has an agreement that a foundation will match every dollar we raise by
ourselves. We perform major choral works with a 70 piece orchestra and
a concert series might cost us $5000 or more for principle musicians
and soloists. Raising $2500 and getting matching funds is a lot easier
than raising $5000. There are other things that can be done. I've been
the producer of several performance series so let me know if you want
more ideas or some personal advice. John
