There is an article on lowering the pitch of a clarinet using a bore
obstruction, i.e. a string, in the Jan.-Feb. 1953 issue of the
"Instrumentalist". If you can't find issues that old, there is a
collection of articles on woodwinds from the "Instrumentalist" in a
book titled "Woodwind Anthology" There is a nice section on the
clarinet with some great articles dating from the 1940's to 1970's. I
don't have it with me at the moment or I would give a more formal
reference, anyway you can look it up in your local library.

P.S. there is some good articles by Dan Leeson in there too. ;-)
