A possibly-related question is, are parts so few for this
instrument that few/no D clarinets are made now? What's the
demand for A-flat [piccolo] parts? I see that you can get
those instruments from the Selmer (or was it Buffet?) factory.

Yet I see more D parts than A-flat piccolo parts. So I'd expect
that D clarinets are easier to come by.

Unless, of course, the clarinet makes assume that D parts can
be played on E-flat clarinets. (Hell, most D parts can be played
on a B-flat [soprano] clarinet. But it's not the same sound.)
