Speaking of judging & contests.

One of my Trombone students who was also a Clarinetist. Asked me many
years ago to Transpose the Piano part to the Von Weber Concerto to
accomodate her playing on an Eb. So I assumed she was using the
Sopranino. As it turns out, she did it on the Eb Contra Alto. It was
Marvelous.

P.S. When I was in high school (granted it WAS a long time ago, and I'm a
brass player), but I always performed solos written for other instruments,
but I never transposed the parts out on paper, which always confused the
adjudicator, I would read and transpose at sight while memorizing. I must
have thought the whole world did it the same way for everyone I went to
school with was doing the same thing.
Some of my soli?
Haydn Trumpet Concerto on the Tuba
Mozart Horn Concerto #3 on the Bass Trombone
Strauss Horn Concerto #2 on the Euphonium
