Stephen,
I had to do program notes on Francaix for his Concerto and found
little more than you. He received his early training with Isodor Philip
(whoever that is) and still lives in Paris, although the rumor is that he
is in precarious health. He actually has an address c/o SACEM, the French
equivalent of ASCAP, but he never bothered replying to two letters I sent
to him about tempo markings in the Concerto. Actually, now that I think of
it, if you call Charlie Neidich in New York, who played the Concerto for
him and talked to him, you might get some more facts. Charlie is in the
phone book. Good luck.
