Concerning Luuk van Buul's latest posting:

I've been curious about a couple of things concerning concert/symphonic
bands:
(1) I'm not very well connected as far as names go -- the Phillips band
doesn't ring a bell -- is it a professional band? Are there many
non-military professional bands in the U.S., and can someone tell me a
little about them?

(2) About community/volunteer (adult-level) bands: Would some of you
please identify some that you would consider to be the best in the U.S.?
{No fair nominating your hometown bands - that would be prejudicial :) }
Perhaps one of the journals has run such an article lately.
I don't suppose this would influence anyone who's planning to make a move
this summer, but it's something that might add to "quality of neighborhood".

This is certainly the season for bands -- the one I play in has a very
busy summer lined up.
