I really learned something important from this thread!!

It never dawned on me that whatever differences in sound I may or
may not have detected when using a crystal mouthpiece are due to
some unknown (but probably large) amount of bone conduction of the
sound. Two brilliant posts were made on this subject that hilighted
that point for me very articulately.

There are few days where I can learn something very valuable (not that
I am so smart - on the contrary, it is because I am so damn dumb that
nothing gets through) and I thank both posters for having brought
that matter out.

Imagine: thinking you sound better (or worse, but certainly differently)
when if fact it is only because bone conduction makes you think that
the phenomenon has occured. But for whatever value a presumed improvement
in one's playing has on one's confidence, it is probably a good thing to
think that even when it is not really happening.

There's something in that previous paragraph but I can't quite isolate it.
